Guest guest
*Who is the real bakra?* * Pinaki Ghosh, Member of Science and Rationalists Association of India* Mahendra Singh Dhoni has sacrificed a goat at a Ranchi temple on the Thanksgiving day. He wanted to thank God for India's cricket victory. In doing so, he has received brickbats from PETA and has lost a small number of his fans. That hardly matters to him. There are a much larger section of his fans who have not ditched him. They followed his hair style and will continue to do so. They kept long hair when he did, and short, when he trimmed his hair. Fans cannot be blamed for doing so; all along history they have aped their heroes. The average young British males in their twenties and thirties, during the Victorian era used to walk with a stick. Why? Because, they blindly aped poet Lord Byron, who was the symbol of the ultimate 'sexy man' (to women) those days. Why did Lord Byron walk with a stick? Because he had a defective leg! Whatever heroes do, carry out messages to their fans and get copied blindly. Dhoni's act will no doubt push thousands of young fans of 'shining India' backward, into the slush of superstition. This event is comparable to Amitabh Bachchan's decision of marrying off Ash to a banana tree since she was a *manglik* (which was much criticised for encouraging superstition). Ugh! What a poor show, Dhoni!
