Communists rule all local self-govts. Now the power in Kottayam municipality

changed from communists to UDF.

So to make Kottayam municipality also to come under their terms anti dog

mafia aided by media is creating dog phobia in Kottayam.

Last 5 days newspapers like Kerala Kaumudi went crazy about dogs biting

about 60 people. People's fears increased. People killed and are still

killing

whichever dog coming to their view. Today, April 8 was another day Kerala

Kaumudi was full of dog biting stories. Just afraid to open newspapers now.

A 7-year-old girl bitten by dog yesterday while sleeping.

Sally's daughter Unnimaya was bitten by a dog who entered the house at 5.30

AM. When the child cried people rushed to find a dog running away. Last 4

days dogs bit about 64 dogs.

Ullahannan asks where are the dogs to be killed?

 

 

 

Kottayam:

 

 

As the locals killed all the street dogs, seasoned dogcatcher Ullahannan

does not have dogs to kill. Last 3 days Ullahannan could kill only 1 dog.

Dogs are

running away from their death Ullahannan. So Ullahannan has to ask to show a

dog to be killed. Rs15/dog was the rate given by Kottayam municipality to

Ullahannan. Now people are waiting in front of his house with cars, so he

does not have time to kill dogs for municipality now.

 

 

 

A dog yesterday entered the compound of a house in Annankunnu in Kottayam.

The people in that house tried to shoot and kill the dog but the bullet hit

the wall and the dog escaped. So they went with a car to ullahannan to kill

the dog. Ullahannan searched everywhere but could not find it. Still he got

Rs. 200 by them.

At that spot itself another party came with a car and took him away to kill

a dog. This time he was successful and he got Rs. 150.

Is the dog that bit several people alive or dead?

In Kottayam and neighboring panchayats the question without answer is

whether the dog that bit 50 people is alive or dead. The animal welfare

doctor says that

if the dog were rabid it would have been dead by this time. People who got

bitten swear that it was a small black and white dog. Although people killed

lots of dogs, nobody has said that the black and white dog is killed. The

doctor says it must be a stray dog because stray dogs are after flesh. Pet

dogs are not like that. All persons bitten had their flesh bitten out. So

the animal welfare doctor says it must be a stray dog. Because people went

after dogs and killed many dogs, the dogs in other areas got provoked and

bit the people there, says the doctor.

The police, local people, district officials searched for an entire night,

still they could not find the specific dog. So strange! Has the

dog died after 4 days? Or is it alive? If dead, whey could not find its

body? Which dog bit the young girl yesterday? We have to find answers for

this.

Police don't agree that the specific dog had died. The MLA's like V.N.

Vasavan and Thomas Chazhikadan don't agree. Not even the locals.

Everybody is asking the same question. Where is the dog? When these

questions are still present, yesterday a dog bit a young girl.

In Kottayam the total human population is 20 lakhs, the dogs 101401

 

 

 

Kottayam:

 

 

 

In a district where there are 20 lakh people, there are 101401 dogs.

This is according to the survey conducted by animal welfare board in 2003.

Out of this, 91743 dogs are pets, 9658 stray dogs.

Even though there are not many pets, people here don't know how to care for

them.

Only 32830 dogs are given immunizations and treatment.

According to district animal welfare center, the anti rabies dose given last

year were 14000. People are not coming with their pets to immunize for less

(Rs.5 as against Rs. 40). The persons who came with their pets last 4 months

were just 200. Stray dog menace is not dealt with rightly in Kottayam

district. A society to protect animals is the one with charge. For the last

3 years this society under district collector is not functioning. No

notification to select members to this society ever published till now. Now

as dogs bit 57 people, animal welfare board decided to take strong actions

concentrating on animal hospitals. Vet docs have been asked to submit a

Heavy rush in animal hospitals

As rabies fear grew, there is a heavy rush to animal hospitals.

The vet Dr.Mathew of Kodimatha animal hospital says that this is due to news

spread about dog menace on Friday night. Yesterday about 10 dogs were

checked

till noon here. They were brought in cars and auto rickshaws. It was amusing

to see owners waiting outside the doctor's cabin with the dogs on their

shoulders. There were persons who brought 3 to 4 dogs " .

 

 

All these news articles frighten people and they will kill dogs.

 

 

 

I doubt that a mafia might be working to kill dogs supported by govt.

because now there is lots of opposition from people everywhere against the

Kerala

government's Suraksha programme under which all dogs are cruelly killed.

There is court case against it, though not reaching anywhere. To influence

courts such

dog-biting cases are either made or blown out of proportion. Now what Kerala

Kaumudi says about 2003 census of dogs does not apply now because in 2005

the communist govt came to power and immediately brought a law to kill all

dogs. The dogs' numbers have drastically decreased. Now in kottayam

municipality the power changed due to P.C.George withdrawing support to LDF.

So are they pressurizing kottayam municipality officials?

 

 

 

There was also news against district collector, to pressurize her?

 

 

 

Why these people want to kill dogs? To appease certain sections of society?

Iam just raising my doubts. I only know that dogs are mercilessly and

cruelly killed in kerala.

 

Educate people about value of animal life through SMS (like - dogs have

life, don't kill them), email, loudspeaker announcement, giving notices

along with newspapers etc

etc.
