SUCCESSFUL PROTEST against Kerala Dog Killings - Report

SUCCESSFUL PROTEST in New Delhi against Kerala Dog Killings - A Report

Dear Friends,

We would like to thank all the people who joined us in the protest yesterday

at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi for the MASS KILLING OF DOGS & other Animals in

the State of KERALA, India. And special thanks to people who wrote to us in

support and could not be there in person. This protest was organised by

Citizens For Animals, Delhi

I would especially like to mention some of the people who took out time to

join us.

Among them were:

1) Mrs Jaya Jaitly, a well known activist & politician

2) Mrs. Ambika Shukla (People for Animals)

3) Mr Hiranmay Karlekar

4) Ms. Shipra Biswas

Among the NGOs and other organisations were:

5) Sonadi

6) We For Animals

7) Abhyas Trust

8) Viveka Foundation and many others

ALSO FIND ATTACHED TWO OF THE PRESS ARTICLES COVERING THE SAME. We haven't

gotten hold of the other newspapers which covered the protest. We will

circulate them around once we get them.

It was a major success as it brought together many missing links in our

protest to fight cruelty to animals in India. We now have assurances and

active participation from many leading politicians who have only recently

come to know of this barbarism. They have not only joined us in their

BOYCOTT movement to stop this animal slaughter, but have also promised their

political support to fight this injustice.

WE WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED.

STRATEGY THAT IS GOING TO WORK.

_______________

For those who do not know what is happening in Kerala - here is a summary:

What is happening in Kerala:

a) Killing of street dogs for skin & bones

b) Skinning alive of turtles for meat and all body parts

c) Rabbit farming for meat and skin

d) Cruelty on elephants

In short: a complete disregard and disrespect for animal life and only

viewing their commercial use age & value.

What does the Law say:

a) ABC rules, PCA Act and many other laws prohibit DOGS from being killed,

dislocated or removed

b) Wild life Acts protect turtles and rabbits from being killed and used for

such products

c) Judgements and directions by high courts / supreme courts on these issues

are very strict, yet are disregarded completely

d) Especially in Kerala where they authorities have given an undertaking

they have openly acted against the courts and can be prosecuted for contempt

How is it implemented at mass scale despite these laws:

Since law doesn't permit it under many sections and by many court orders so

they follow a strategy -

a) Mass hysteria by false reporting on dog bites, i.e. local press is

misguiding as per directions from state govt. / funders

b) So once opposition & fear is created the people don't object to dogs

being killed

c) Programs like 'Suraksha " are launched which projects to protect people

from the " deadly " dogs. These programs are eye washes to keep the people

happy

d) Mass killing begins and people participate for petty money they get per

dog that is killed

e) Even pets are not spared.

f) For Turtles and Rabbits, the govt has subsidised setting up breeding and

killing and farming units as a legal source of income for the people, just

like a small scale industry.

g) Whoever objects is subjected to mass boycott and harassment from local

police, municipal corps, state govt. Some were even sent to jail on false

charges. i.e. a violation of HUMANS RIGHTS too.

h) Being a communist state they are following the Chinese way of treating

animals in an autocratic manner.

Hence, the press, judiciary, govt, police, authorities like Animal Husbandry

Dept are all hand in glove to continue this violation of animal & humans

rights and complete disregard of the law of the land.

What can help:

a) Boycott of Kerala Tourism and Sanctions against their Products which is

their primary source of income.

b) Allow an external agency to take over the ABC program, as the local govt

have submited false affidavits to courts that they are doing the ABC. Simple

ABC wont help, as they will never implement it in reality.

c) Every time people protest they stop it temporarily. But it goes on for

years. Hence setting up a separate Apex body like Animal Courts at the

center, animal rights commission is the only solution.

d) The violators must be prosecuted sternly to set an example for future so

they don't get away after doing this.

Other states are taking bad precedence from states like Kerala and are

trying to follow these barbaric so called solutions.

This is a nation wide problem which require serious interventions.

CITIZENS FOR ANIMALS (CFA) is calling upon all Animal Welfare Organisations

across the nation and world to join hands and form a strong coalition to

fight for animals rights. Our fragmented efforts have led us nowhere and it

is time ANIMAL RIGHTS COMMISSION/ ANIMAL COURTS is formulated in India.

Thanks

For CITIZENS FOR ANIMALS
