She was given water for drinking and bathing .First aid was provided and Forest deptt.People were informed.A Forest gaurd appeared after some hrs.followed by a range officer at arround 4.00PM.They were handed over the charge of Elephant .It was told that it is being taken to Tiger safari. In tthe Meanwhile Hon.Minister for Forests and Wildlife was informed who also assured the action. It is worth mentioning that this elephant is not recognised as Captive animal Facility by CZA (Central Zoo Authority)under sec.38H of wildlife Protection Act 1972(Am mended).It was also asked to ensure that whether the Animal has Got Ownership certificate and Transit Permit(if it is brought from Outside state or having certificate issued by competent authority outside punjab).Forest officials were also asked to ensure that Proper Vety treatment to the Beast may be provided. Central Zoo authority has Guidelines like the Owner must have tranquillising Gun and Injectables to control the Animal if it goes Berserk. The Elephant should also be Microchipped for the Purpose of Identification. The wounded elephant is in the clutches of people who are using it for begging. Notwithstanding its wounded leg, three persons had hired Lakshmi from its owner on Tajpur Road. The animal, who is limping, was spotted today afternoon by a city resident, who informed the police about the cruelty. people who hire the animal from the owners do not even feed the animal properly. Chief Wildlife Warden MP Rai said that he had asked District Forest Officer Mahavir Singh to look into the matter and trace the owner of the elephant. " After verifying the facts about the ownership of the animal and whether they had a transit license, legal action will be taken, " he said, when asked about the cruelty to the animal.
