Guest guest
It was a humble meow and not a growl from this time as our animal people panelists sat to argue the wrongs on National television, TIMES NOW on a debate over the recent 'Vodaphone pug TVC'. It is sad that a fantastic opportunity was ruined. The end result a confused viewer, a confused ME. If any of you were lucky to have watched the show, please help me understand what prevented our brethrens from spitting venom at the offenders? Guest guest
Link: http://timesnow.tv/Newsdtls.aspx?NewsID=7908 Row over India's most famous dog The famous pug mascot for Vodafone might seem quite lovable to you - but his latest onscreen appearance chasing a bus has sparked off a controversy of sorts. The Animal Welfare Board in India says the admakers didn't treat the dog well. The admakers naturally beg to differ and deny any wrongdoing. The debate just keeps getting bigger! Rocky was supposed to follow you everywhere and anywhere, whether you are in a bus or on a fishing trip, but the AWB, India, is not amused. They say they have not given the permission for this advertisement to be aired. But the admakers, in a televised debate on TIMES NOW had some ready answers too. The Board has slapped a notice on Vodafone, asking it to withdraw the ad threatening to initiate legal proceedings under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. For now, Vodafone hasn't withdrawn the ad but deleted the portion which shows the dog running behind the bus - after all, having a pug huff and puff might just bring Vodafone's house down. But somewhere down the line the track for the government has now changed to now being about, believe it or not, some bureaucratic formalities. The PETA says no animal is a natural performer, but the Welfare Board is more concerned about a signature on the paper while the ad-makers might just be happy with all the publicity. TIMES NOW gave all the parties involved the chance to slug it out in a debate - now you decide who is right. Meanwhile amidst all this, the pug is still following us while you and I are trying to make sense of this beautiful world. *Debate excerpts* Piyush Pandey: The dog is extremely important to us and we love the dog. Gen R M Kharb (Chairman, Animal Welfare Board): They (film producers) have bypassed the normal system of getting the NOC clearance from the Animal Welfare Board of India. Pandey: There is a rule that says that if I am not shooting in this country I do not need their permission because it is not their dog. The dog is from South Africa, and I need to go by the process of South Africa - it's not your dog, what's you problem? Kharb: Would you allow your pet dog to follow a public bus on a public road? Prahlad Kakkar: You would have to use a very fat leash on your dog to prevent it from chasing cars. It is his natural inclination to chase cycles and motorcycles and cars. Kharb: If you show to the people they would like to copy which is a very wrong thing you are showing. Kakkar: I think you are taking this to a giddy limit. Kharb: You must also realise that the pug is a bronchocephalic dog who is very much prone to repsiratory stress. And you are making him gallop behind a bus. Kakkar: Are you trying to tell me that the dog is a lap dog and must be carried wherever he goes. Kharb: But he is not supposed to chase public buses. Kakkar: It just happens to be a public bus. Kharb: So you encourage a pet to chase a bus on a public road? And it's is a tutored dog, it is not a natural instinct. It hjas bee trained to do so. Pandey: There was a veterinary doctor who approved the shoot. Are we trying to say he was stupid or we bribed him? Khar: We had given you pre-shoot permission, asking you the date and time when you were going to shoot saying if we want we can send our person to oversee the shoot. You never did so. You have grossly flouted the rules, you did not get the post-shoot permission - you think you are a law unto yourselves - and then you aired the film. The film producers have not taken the NOC after shooting the film which they are required to do from the prescribed authority which in this case is the animal welfare board. Pandey: I am going to take on this arguement and I am going to win this argument.
