Guest guest
November last year I found the petition http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/street-begging-elephants which has been put up in September. In my opinion this petition hasn’t been signed enough: far from that! I know and I see that Internet is full of petitions concerning the dramatic animal-abuse worldwide and lots of times in its cruelest forms! Let’s nevertheless not forget this abuse where lots of elephants in the cities of Thailand are involved. Elephants that are ripped away from their social environment, elephants of all ages who are roaming around in heavily polluted, overcrowded and noisy cities for, I estimate, at least 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. Bad food, sometimes food-poisoning, drugs, wounds, no proper bathing, drinking from posh fountains in front of shopping malls or hotels and being “cared†for and eating at hide-aways on rubbish-belts. And don’t forget that the name “elephant†appears at lists mentioning the top ten of the most deadly animals! We need really THOUSANDS of signatures to force with that attention the Thai authorities to take action and to get rid of this abuse now and forever! This must not be a utopia!! This is the only way to let the Thai authorities enforce their existing laws and rules concerning these creatures, being the “Symbol of Thailandâ€, not only once but forever. The second hit with this is to make more tourists aware of what they are doing with buying food off the mahouts to feed the “cute†animals to appear laughing with them at photos for the family-album to show in their country. When the tourists refuse en bloc to pay for this abuse the source of income for the mahouts and, indirect, for the Thai government, dries and dies. When you want to see what you are signing for you can see lots of photos in my album: http://www.flickr.com/photos/toni_uni/sets/72157603251277034/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/toni_uni/sets/72157604859565642/ More text in my WEBlog: http://mistifarang.wordpress.com/category/animal-abuse-in-thailand/begging-stree\ t-elephants-in-thailand/ Don’t tolerate elephants as “free†roaming circus-elephants in cities doing their performance to please begging the tourists! Thanks on forehand! " I will NOT remain silent. I will speak for those who cannot, or will not speak, and it will hurt. " Daharja
