PRESENTLY ,THERE IS A BAN ON KILLING DOGS ISSUED BY THE DELHI HIGH COURT AND SUPREME COURT .THIS HAS BROUGHT THE CORPORATIONS SURAKSHA PROJECT (TO MANAGE STRAY DOG POPULATION) TO A STANDSTILL. The state government must be a party in the ongoing case in Supreme court regarding the killing of stray dogs,a resolution passed by city corporation council on Friday said The menace of stray dogs has become a headache to local body with complaints pouring in from all quarters .Presently there is a ban on killing dogs issued by Delhi high court and the Supreme court ,following a petition moved by animal lovers group .This has bought the corporations Suraksha project [to manage stray dog population] to a standstill. Its in this context that an official resolution was passed by the corporation council requesting the state government to intervene. The council has also decided to notify the government about the shortage of veterinarians in the corporation run slaughter house at Kunnukuzhy .Mayor c jayan babu told the council that vets called from psc list were showing no interest in joining the slaughter house .the shortage of vets here has led to the mushrooming of unauthorised slaughter house accross the city ,he said.
