Guest guest
Where are all the stray dogs? The China Post news staff Thursday, January 10, 2008 Using the map system on the Internet, the Agou Stray Animal Education Association has posted many photos of stray dogs with geographical locations indicated. TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Where are the stray dogs? People with such a question may find some answers at a Web site run by a group of animal lovers in Taiwan. The Agou Stray Animal Education Association has been posting a growing number of photos of stray dogs on their site: http://picasaweb.google.com/agouworldTW/2000/photo#map. Agou means " dog " in the local dialect used by the majority of Taiwan residents whose ancestors immigrated to the island from southern Fujian Province in China. Chen Chang-an, leader of the association, has been keeping track of stray dogs and taking snapshots with a camera since he was a teenager. He and five members of the group traveled to all major dog shelters around Taiwan in the past year to conduct on-site inspections and to discover how the detained stray dogs were being treated. All such photos and information are now available at the Web site: http://picasaweb.google.com/agouworldTW. Chen said the photos and data they gathered indicate the treatment of stray animals on the island show almost no advancement in the past decade. He said there is still much room for improvement concerning taking care of the helpless animals, including keeping an open mind and accepting new ideas to treat them in a more humanitarian way. The group welcomes all animal lovers to help monitor stray dogs in their neighborhood and send photos and information to the association at: agou.world or agou.worldTW. The association can also be reached by phone at: 2636-9216. http://www.chinapost.com.tw/taiwan/2008/01/10/138394/Where-are.htm --------------------------- Agouworld: " Located on Formosa, an island better known as Taiwan, Agouworld is a small community made up of people who care and are concerned about the treatment of stray animals here in Taiwan. We try to eaducate and tell the people around us about the setting in which strays in our country are put in, and debate about the governments' actions on handling stray animals. By teaching others with our determination and effort, we aim to improve the local knowledge about strays and improve their surroundings. We train stray dogs to work, after training them we allow them to be adopted by peers; and hope to pass others the concept of raising animals. Agouworld has now organized an " Online Adoption Service " for adopting the trained stray dogs.
