An octopus is highly intelligent and turns white when it is afraid. Therefore should squashing a live adult octopus into a small screw top jar awaiting its turn on the dinner plate not be considered cruel? Do we really need to torture our food before we eat it? Is there any law preventing this? I would like to know and I am sure so would every terrified octopus being held captive at this very moment under such extremely cramped conditions. Every time I pass by the seafood restaurant in Hong Kong, where this is being commonly practised I feel appalled.
