The cause of the tiger’s death was not immediately known but the rhino had been gunned down by poachers. Officials at the park, about 250 km from here, said the cause of the tiger’s death was yet to be ascertained. Wildlife Crime Control Bureau officials conducted a post-mortem on the tiger, which was in its prime, but were yet to release the report. The carcass was spotted near the anti-poaching camp at Mikirjan of the sanctuary’s Kohra range. It was recovered in the presence of the park director and officials of the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation. Between November 2008 and August 3 this year, at least 11 tigers have been killed in the park. The female rhino was killed and its horn chopped off by poachers in the Bagori range of Kaziranga. Park officials found its carcass between Donga and Harmati forest camps. On July 26, forest guards had foiled some poachers’ attempt to kill a rhino in the Burapahar range of the sanctuary after an hour-long gunbattle. -- http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
