Guest guest
Dear All, Let us give a Thumbs Up to the AWBI (Animal Welfare Board of India), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, for writing out to the Rajasthan Government to take note of the proposed Elephant Polo/ Races etc scheduled for the 10th of March. It may be noted that AWBI secretary Mr. D.Rajasekar IFS, in a letter dated 2nd March' 2009 has cautioned the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan on the specific violations with regards to the Performing Animals (Registration) Rules, 2001 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Please see letter attached for more details. This compassionate gesture of the AWBI towards the elephants of Rajasthan would go a long way in speeding up the END to the Jumbo abuses for Human entertainment in Independent India. May I request each one of you to please thank the secretary AWBI and his team for being a voice to these gentle giants in crisis. Write to: " Secretary AWBI " <secretary.awbi Also I would like you to thank Mr. Raj Panjwani, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of India for serving a legal notice to the organisers of Elephant Polo and Races etc in this regard on behalf of PETA- India. Mr. Raj Panjwani has been one of India's most successful advocate for animal rights and has won a lot of difficult legal battles. He has also co-authored India's most preferred book on animal laws, the 'Animal Laws of India' with Smt Maneka Gandhi and Ozair Husain. He was one of the first person to voice in this campaign (United against Elephant Polo, see website http://www.stopelephantpolo.com) on legal advice way back in 2006 during the Cartier Cup Elephant Polo tournament. With him by our side this battle is half won.
