The wolf was sighted last week near the Badaling section of the wall, visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year, The Beijing News reported. It said experts had analysed a photograph of the animal and looked into traces it had left behind, concluding beyond doubt that it was a wolf. Police had dismissed rumours that the wolf escaped from a nearby zoo, the report said. It is rare for a wolf to appear in the area, which is 50km northwest of Beijing. " The last time I saw a wild wolf in this area was when I was in my teens, " said a 74-year-old resident surnamed Hu, quoted in the report. Police and wild animal protection agencies were preparing to capture the wolf to prevent any attacks on residents or tourists, it said.
