Guest guest
Dear All, Reading the mails over the last few weeks I personally feel more and more disconnected to what may be called " the Animal Welfare Community " I sincerely hope that the exchange of ideas will help the animals one way or the other but I cannot discover any connection to my day to day work in the shelter and rescue work. Absorbed by project- proposals, annual report, accounts, lack of money, management problems, legal problems with courtcases, securing proper treatment for the animals under our care etc.I feel desparate most of the time. I would not deal with any of this if those animals were not in our care. Over the years my opinions have changed but I dont care for them as they dont contribute much for the animal at my hand. I will from aapn and I dont think I will make it to the conference. I am available for personal communication at clementien Regards, Clementien -- Clementien A Pauws, President, Karuna Society for Animals and Nature, 2/138C, Karuna Nilayam, Puttaparthi - 515 134 (A.P) India
Guest guest
It's up to you Clementine, If you wish to then you can. I had not seen e-mail or newsletter about your program in AAPN neither active participation nor your Fund Requests. If we @ PAWS do small brochure release then we make a small e-mail & circulate over many . This gives contacts. We raised funds; we do our own publicity & inspire other to do the same. My monthly e-mail newsletters idea was picked-up by many NGO's in India (Not sure..but I feel.. ) not only animal NGO's but in karmayog 's NGO's started sending newsletters. In first year of incorporation in 2001 we started this service. Which has benefited a lot. It up-to you how use utilize the forum. Example: When Praveen of HOPE found that his payments were due we replied in same forum that he should speak to AWBI & Maneka (With contact Nos.). He did what we said & got the funds. He even thanked the group for rendering help. Until & Unless you are going share your difficulties then how you expect a " Connection of your Work " with this group. Guest guest
Dear Ms Clementien Pauws, Please allow me to make a few observations on what you have written. To begin with, I first met you at the Singapore Asia for Animals conference and subsequently read about your work and admire your efforts greatly. I can see where your arguments are coming from but please consider the following views. I hereby attach for your perusal the aims and objectives of AAPN as outlined on the AAPN website: " This is a forum for news, information, opinions and discussions on animal issues in Asia. The Asian Animal Protection Network aims to develop intra-regional co-operation and provide an entry point for enquiries from other regions. It is a loose, cost-effective network for exchanging information and ideas and general mutual support. Issues include but are not limited to: animal welfare, animal rights, vegetarian and vegan concerns, humane education, wildlife habitat conservation, traditional medicine, zoos, safari parks, circuses, the fur trade, elephants, bears, tigers, wolves, dogs, cats, etc. " It is true that you face a lot of daily problems in running an animal shelter, a problem that is shared by many other individual members of this list who are doing similar work. However, please recognise that providing direct or indirect help for running animal shelters is only one of the aims of a listserve. Any listserve, including AAPN discusses a wide range of issues for a wide audience whose perspectives and needs for animal work differ. For example, the expectations of an animal rescue worker would differ from that of an activist, the requirements of a conservationist would differ from that of an academic. Please bear in mind that AAPN is meant to serve this wide spectrum of interests ranging across the globe so expecting all messages to be of immediate use and relevance to animal welfare work in shelters is a bit idealistic. Of course, animal shelter concerns should be addressed but please understand that other wider issues need to be addressed on AAPN too. Personally, I find all messages on AAPN educational and stimulating. Some are more interesting than others but the list as a whole is extremely edifying. Many animal rights campaigns, including the widely publicised elephant polo campaign, had their birth on AAPN. The debates on academic/intellectual issues have enriched me without exception. So all these factors have to be considered by the moderator in deciding the direction that AAPN should take. I hope you agree. It was a pleasure meeting you in Singapore and I hope you will be able to attend the conference in Bali. I also urge you to reconsider your decision to quit AAPN for I am sure that like all of us, you have much to contribute to this list. I believe that every individual matters and makes a difference to a community. Your presence on AAPN matters and makes a difference. Please consider staying on with us on AAPN. Thank you for expressing your thoughts. With regards and in appreciation, On 6/9/08, Clementien Pauws <clementien wrote: > > Dear All, > Reading the mails over the last few weeks I personally feel more and more > disconnected to what may be called " the Animal Welfare Community " I > sincerely hope that the exchange of ideas will help the animals one way or > the other but I cannot discover any connection to my day to day work in the > shelter and rescue work.
