*Scheme to control stray dogs*

Since the Supreme Court has put a ban on the killing of stray dogs, an

effective way to control stray dog population through the Animal Birth

Control Programme has been introduced in the state of Kerala. Authorities of the

municipalities and panchayats in the state have been directed to use the ABC

scheme to control stray dog population.

All local self governing bodies in the state have been directed to sign MOU

with Animal Welfare Board of India the body that promises 50% financial aid

for the Animal Birth Control Programme.
