Guest guest
Dear all at aapn I found this email in our junk mail file and thought I would bring it to the attention of those who may not be aware of the possible scam associated with this type of email. Last year ARK had dealings with a 'Dr Lucy Leigh' following a similar email to this one (we did not in fact go ahead with the transaction so no harm was done) , however I know of at least one charity (via aapn postings) who were taken in by her and forwarded transportation cost for the said items. These items were not sent and as I understand it, the charity never heard from her again. It seems she may have set up under another persona. Please do not be conned by this type of fraud. Guest guest
Odette Tompkins of Animal Rescue Kerala is to be congratulated for recognizing and exposing yet another of the innumerable variants of the " Free Veterinary Equipment " fraud, which has been operating for several years now, scamming charities all over the world -- even though the come-on for it could scarcely be more obvious: >I am Dr. Christie Darryl ( Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary >Physiology), I own a veterinary Service where I practice both exotic >and companion animal medicine. > >We have recently acquired new medical supplies and a new mobile van >and now offering to donate a pre-used " all purpose " mobile van and >the veterinary equipments below. > >1 Ultrasound >1 Autoclave It is quite easy to verify the identity of any veterinarian, almost anywhere in the world, and this should be step #1 in responding to any alleged vet. Exotic animal vets are extremely rare, so verifying the identity of a vet who claims to have this identity is even easier. It is also quite easy to verify the existence of a name. There is no one in any of the white pages of the world whose surname is " Darryl. " Unfortunately, another member of AAPN fell for this scam a few days ago, and aided and abetted it by forwarding the come-on to many other animal charities. The name of the bogus vet changes often, so there is no need to remember a name. Just remember that if anything sounds too good to be true, it probably is not true -- and check it out. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
