Guest guest
*One of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege of meeting and interviewing. She has made a phenomenal contribution to conservation and animal welfare. My zoo work has largely been inspired by her. She pioneered the anti captivity movement in the world almost singlehandedly and the achievement of her foundation for captive animals in UK is unique and astonishing. The Born Free Foundation remains an outstanding voice for animals in captivity. I wish we had a few more people like her in the zoo scenario in India. Her first volume of autobiography, 'Some of My Friends Have Tails' is beautifully written and superbly illustrated, she was kind enough to personally sign my copy.* *I look forward to reading this book.* ** *http://www.bornfree.org.uk/give/shops/the-life-in-my-years/* *THE LIFE IN MY YEARS * *By Virginia McKenna, £25 (+P & P1)* *Foreword by Joanna Lumley* Signed copies available - exclusive to Born Free<http://www.bornfree.org.uk/give/shops/the-life-in-my-years/shop/acatalog/Bo\ oks.html> Wonderful news! If you would like the opportunity to meet Virginia, she is now undertaking a nationwide book tour (see events for details<http://www.bornfree.org.uk/give/shops/the-life-in-my-years/get-involved/\ events/>). Virginia McKenna starred in some of the most popular and enduring movies of our time, including *Carve Her Name With Pride*, *A Town Like Alice* and of course the phenomenally successful *Born Free*, in which she and Bill Travers depicted the story of conservationists George and Joy Adamson and their reintroduction of Elsa the orphaned lion cub to the wild. Following the multi-award-winning *Born Free* – a film which Barack Obama found inspiring - both actors were at the peak of their careers, but the film and all it still stands for changed their lives. Its powerful message stayed with them and so began a lifetime’s campaigning across the world to save animals from commercial exploitation, imprisonment in zoos and the loss of their natural habitat. At the heart of this autobiography is a call to respect nature and all that it provides. Despite an exceptional career in cinema and theatre, Virginia McKenna pushed aside the glamour of movie stardom and the West End to focus relentlessly on her personal mission with the Born Free Foundation, as well as other concerns such as the plight of orphaned children across the world. This book will inspire anyone who cares about the future of the planet and all the creatures dependent on it, including human beings. *The Life in My Years * is the inspirational story of an extraordinary life.
