At the side of a road in Trivandrum were the corporation dog killers, they had two dogs in the vehicle, there was a spade in the vehicle and many used syringes on the dashboard. It was said by one of the 'vet volunteers' that the dogs were for the ABC programme, but a man who was near said one word to me- ''killing''. Killing would be the only thing to account for the spade (for burying?)and the used syringes. These syringes were far too small to have been used for thiopentone, and were not intravenous ,so we must presume they contain poison . This in spite of the fact that the corporation have to answer a contempt charge for lying about the killing (after they said in 2007 that they were doing the ABC/AR programme in the high court in Cochin.) We did manage to get some photos, which I hope will show the issue. I phoned to try to get someone in a position to help the situation ,so we hung around the vehicle while I made phone calls.,but I was unable to get anybody who could help,so we decided all we could do was leave these poor animals to their terrible fate. The police were called by the vet volunteers ,who refused to let us leave . I said to the policeman that it was illegal to kill dogs ,he said they were not being killed. I asked what the spade was in the vehicle for if it was not to bury the dogs? The policeman said go and make a complaint ,his attitude was very very surly ,to say the least. We were sent away by the police who had no intention of doing anything about the situation. It was stated in the New Indian Express on March 4Th that the new IDRV rabies vaccine is to be used. The first IDRV clinic has been set up at General hospital; there are another 7 clinics to be set up ,another is at medical college at Trivandrum. Yet in the RTI we put into the corporation we asked how many rabid dogs have been picked up under the 'Suraksha scheme' which started in july 2007. . THE ANSWER WAS NIL? Is this just hype to get the people on the side of the corporation before the case that comes up in Cochin becomes public knowledge? there has been a number of articles on stray dog hype in the papers in the past week. Kerala seems to be a law unto itself. I did wonder if the corporation would take out another case against me ,for going over to the goverment rickshaw yesterday (the previous case against me was taken out in 2007 and is a tissue of lies ,which I can prove ,and I am still out on bail for this offense.) avis lyons www.animalrescuekerala.org
