The police said the elephant was killed on the spot on coming into contact with sagging 11-kV lines while being carried on a lorry to a worksite at Chennappara, on the way to Mathamba, on the Kottayam-Idukki border. Hundreds of people thronged the spot. Forest officials have reached the spot. The lorry took a diverted route as a culvert was under construction on the original route. — Staff Reporter
