On 14th august, the grater Indian coucel bird's baby was rescued by PAWS volunteers. On 19th a pond heron was rescued & sent for rehabilitation. The next day a small baby mynah was rescued by our team. All these birds were sent for further rehabilitation to Thane SPCA. ## On 30th, PAWS team received a call from kalyan resident that a bullock was lying injured in kalyan area. The bullock had broken his leg. We requested IDA to help us rescue the injured bullock. 'In Defense of Animals' trustee Fizzah Shah sent IDA's new cattle ambulance to rescue the huge bull, later with help of Dr. Sharma, the bull was transferred to Fizzah's Ark - farm house in Virar. Special mention about our hardcore volunteers Kaizad & Samir who spent several days in rescuing the bullock. ## This month PAWS ambulances attended a total of 46 injured dogs & several dogs for sterilization. 4. PAWS ON WEB / MEDIA - 'I AM THE CHANGE' FILM PROJECT': ## MAM movies created a project on 101 NGO's by making short film of the work carried out by the NGO's. The team came & shooted Tree Plantation, Animal Rescues. This short film named 'Green Guards' is selected & shown in Cinemax theaters in Mumbai on 6th August. Now this CD is being used by PAWS Team for Awareness Programs in school. We thank Aniruddha & his team for this film. We also thank PAWS supporter Abhishek Bhowmick who designed the CD Cover. ## Our Secretary Mr. Nilesh's quote was taken in DNA newspaper about sterilization issues. FUNDRAISING BY SCOTLAND SUPPORTERS: PAWS supporters from Scotland Ms. Heather Shuckburgh, Mr. Mark Wickens, Ms. Charlotte Harrop & Mr. Kurt Meusel did fundraising to get rescue equipments for PAWS. They participated in 'Girvan Harbor Gala Day' by putting-up a stall & sold the bric-a-brac, photographs & cloths. They also held raffle & prices sponsored by their resort. They sold bags via E-bay & also kept 'Lucky Dip' & 'Chinese Tattoo' at the stall. Flayer about PAWS activities were made available on stall. They were so happy to see huge PAWS team in action. We wholeheartedly thank all of them for their staunch support for the cause we have taken-up. 6.ASIA FOR ANIMALS CONFERENCE 2008, BALI : This year's Asia for Animals conference was held in Bali, Indonesia between 27th - 29th August 2008. PAWS secretary Mr. Nilesh Bhanage attended the conference. PAWS also kept a stall there, through the donation box raised money. Post conference session on Disaster management arranged by WSPA also attended by our secretary. This was great event to spread awareness about PAWS & its activities. It was a successful event. ANTI-RABIES VACCINATION DRIVE - DOMBIVLI: Our trustee Mrs. Ekbote, volunteers Raj & Mrs. Nagle takes care of over 120 dogs in Dombivli's Agarkar Road & Pendse nagar areas. These dogs were vaccinated by PAWS team on 24th August. The team was divided in 2 groups with one vet each as the area was large & total 26 volunteers were present. MTV also did a shoot of our vaccination drive that day. 8. SOCIETY PET DOG / STRAY DOG FEEDING ISSUES: ## On 1st August PAWS founder Anuradha Ramaswamy informed PAWS that a shop owner beats the dogs that are sitting outside his shop in kalwa. PAWS wrote him a stern letter & now he has changed his behaviour. ## On 18th PAWS office received a Complaint from volunteer Anand, a resident of Iyer road that his neighbor s hit the dogs with stones if they sit near their house. PAWS wrote stern letter to them & warned them for the same. The matter was solved amicably. 9. DONATION IN KIND: # This month PAWS received many rescue equipments from our Scotland supporters. We thank them for this gift. # World Veterinary Services sent dewormers as donation to PAWS from UK. We thank them for the medicines. # This month Brilliant Industry donated 100 doses of Anti-Rabies to PAWS. We are thankful for their generosity. 10. AFFILIATIONS ## This month PAWS received a renewed 'Certificate of Association' from RSPCA, UK. The certificate had expired in June 08. The new certificate is valild till 2011. ## Our friend from UK brought certificate of affiliation from World Wide Vety. Services UK. We are very happy to receive this new affiliation. 11. SCHOOL /COLLEGE AWARENESS - CHILDREN FROM AKANSHA FOUNDATION: ## 16 children from Akanksha Foundation & their teachers Rebecca Newman & Shefali visited PAWS office on Sunday, 17th August 2008 in the afternoon. These children live in slums, having Animal Welfare as project undertaken by them, were delighted by the PAWS welcome. Program drafted by Nilesh with brief introduction on PAWS working, question and answer round next, followed by speech on 'instances of joining PAWS by its volunteers' by Sangam, Crystal, Prathmesh & Saurabh. The next was Beauty without Cruelty Video, break for snacks, play of PAWS video Green Guard, explaining PAWS office work & how students, volunteers can help. Final play of CD 'Compassionate Citizen' & interaction with Pet dog Max. Over 375 children of 8-9-10th standard benefitted from the program conducted in all Marathi, Hindi & English mediums on 5th August. ## On 12/13th August - on World Youth Day PAWS volunteer Prathmesh Desai organized an awareness program at Royal College. Over 200 students benefited from the PAWS program. Mr. Desai is a student of Royal College. All above programs were volunteered & coordinated by Sonali Bagde, Lekha Lodaya, Prathmesh Desai, Saurabh Chougule, Avinash Bhagat & Crystal Fernandez.
