Guest guest
Dear Friends, Of all the statements the captive dolphin industry has made about people who protest the capture, confinement and other forms of dolphin abuse, the one that stands out, at least to me, is this: " You protesters always make a lot of noise in the beginning -- but then you go away, and we can continue doing what we do in peace. " Sadly, the claim has some truth to it. Too often, if the results we want are not produced immediately, we give up, go away and move on to another issue. The annual dolphin slaughter in Japan has been going on for more than 400 years. The annual worldwide protest of the slaughter -- known as Japan Dolphin Day -- has only been going on for a couple of years. This year, very few groups have signed up for the event. What has caused this lack of interest? Have we really given up so soon? Japan Dolphin Day is about stopping the largest slaughter of dolphins in the world. But it's about so much more than that. It's about giving the doomed dolphins a voice that can be heard all over the world. It's about bringing international attention to their terrible plight. With so few groups participating, our global community of dolphin advocates appears very weak and scattered. Dolphins are hunted and killed in Japan in the most gruesome way imaginable every single day six months out of the year. All that we have to do to give those dolphins a voice is spend a few hours protesting just one day. Whatever your reason might be for not participating in Japan Dolphin Day, please reconsider your decision. The Japanese government officials and whalers would welcome our silence. They may even have predicted that this is what would happen: Eventually, we would just go away. Please prove them wrong. Japan Dolphin Day is taking place at all international Japanese embassies and consulate offices on Wednesday, September 3rd. If you can participate for a few hours on that most important day, please contact me ASAP. Please keep the faith, -- ric o'barry ricobarry Here's who we are so far: Andreas Morlock-Walschutzaktionen - Munich Animalisti Italiani Onlus - Rome Animal Welfare Institute - Washington DC Asian Animal Protection Network - Hong Kong British Divers Marinelife Rescue - London Care for the Wild International - London CATCA - Vancouver Campaign Whale - London Canadian Marine Environment Protection Society - Vancouver Cetacean Society International - New York/Boston Coalition for No Whales in Captivity - Vancouver Compassion in Action - Calgary Dolphin Spirit - San Francisco Earth Island Institute - San Francisco/ Manila Elsa Nature Conservancy - Tokyo Environmental Investigation Agency - London In Defense of Animals - San Francisco International Animal Rescue - London The Junglees - Calcuta Lamma Animal Welfare Centre - Hong Kong Linking Individuals for Nature Conservation - Hong Kong Marine Connection - London Marine Animal Survival Team of CSI - Boston Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition - Boston NY Whale and Dolphin Action League - New York Ocean Care (ASMS) - Bern Philippine Animal Welfare Society - Manila Sea Shepherd Conservation Society - Budapest/Calgary Stichting Dolphinmotion - Den Haag Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society - London Wal-und Delfinschutz-Forum - Berlin WSPA - Boston Zoocheck - Toronto
