Guest guest
Many thanks, Hilke and Merritt. The dog was found a few days ago but I didn't think to post on here. She was pregnant, too, which I neglected to mention. I just got this message from the people who picked her up: *I just wanted to let you know that we found a no-kill shelter here run by the Beijing Small Animal Protection society that is taking the momma dog we found and is going to let her give birth to her pups. They have an apartment where they take care of the animals most in need, where they are sticking mom now and will also raise the baby dogs. They said they don't think they will have trouble finding homes for the puppies. We saw the place when we dropped the momma dog off and it's crowded (about 15 dogs and 15 cats, plus a monkey they had saved from a monkey brain restaurant and even a peacock) but you could tell that the volunteers there were kind-hearted and the animals were loved and fairly well cared for. The woman running the whole operation said she had gotten the idea to set up the facility when she had lived in the US in the past. They even offered to reimburse us from their budget for part of the cost of the momma dog's operation to remove her eye but we turned them down, of course. Anyway, we're going back today to drop off some food. Just wanted to let you know about this success story.* I've not heard of this group, but my friend is happy that they took in the dog. Thanks again, everyone. Next time I'll be sure to post here first.
