Guest guest
I agree with Lavkumar saheb. Conservation and Protection has to be done with communal support. It can not be forcefully enforced on public. But it has to be done by motivating them and making them understand. I call upon volunteers / team of volunteers to come forward to practically work on field during such religious events taking place in Gir and Girnar. Apart from Parikrama, other such events are Mahashivratri, Janmasthami etc. Our organisation will support such volunteers by arranging the campaign, bear their expenses and providing information material. If need be coal should be provided at subsidised rates. I am sure cooking gas could also be made available. It is essential that the Forest Department not take action without taking people into prior consultation. The days of authoritarian rules seems not to have ended as far as the Forest Department is concerned. As far as the conduct of the pilgrims is concerned, there should be very clear guidelines given out in pamphlets and in the press well before the Parikrama dates and, all along the route, Forest Guards should be detailed to keep a check on conduct. I am sure the organisers would not be averse to control in conduct of the younger lot. Here, Kishore, people like you can get fully involved. Lavkumar Khachar. The route of this track passes through the Girnar forest. About 18 – 20 Asiatic lions reside in this Girnar forest. There are many religious Trusts and NGOs who put up camps along the tracks and provide the devotees with free food and water. Till last year forest department allowed such NGOs to collect dry wood for fire to cook the food. But this year forest department has denied use of the wood. Due to this NGOs have to bring wood on camel backs from distant city of Junagadh . Kishore Kotecha’s comment: I appreciate such a bold step by forest department. In fact such tracks should be moved outside the forest. Most of these so-called devotees do not behave themselves while tracking. Get the freedom to save as many mails as you wish.
