Guest guest
Thanks to Nilesh Bhanage and Diana Singh Roy for obtaining and posting the Bombay SPCA's response to the allegations by Vishaya Kumtekar. I had tried to contact the Bombay SPCA myself to get their side of the matter, and as a matter of fluke chance, happened to reach a person within the Bombay SPCA who has her own agenda against the management. The issue in each case, and in some of the cases described in the links that Nilesh posted yesterday, appears to be that some volunteers attempt to use the Bombay SPCA as a perceived infinite resource in support of their own rescue efforts. Many humane societies run into this. The plain and simple truth is that it is much easier to rescue animals in need than to raise the funds and maintain the facilities required to treat them. Those who wish to use humane society facilities on a regular basis need to contribute to raising the resources needed to keep the humane society operating -- for example, collecting donations for the humane society or helping to organize fundraising projects. If a person who uses a humane society in support of personal rescues does not contribute proportionately to raising support for the society, then someone else has to do it -- and those volunteers usually also have their own personal rescues in need of help. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O. Guest guest
Most aptly and beautifully put. A large portion of the " donations " received at the Blue Cross of India are from animal " rescuers " whose contributions are animals they bring in and nothing else. Like some of our financial contributors who wish to remain anonymous, these donors, too, drop their " gifts " over the wall, tie them up at our gates, etc and return later to check that their gifts are being well cared for! Guest guest
Dear All, What I meant from previous links & from my first posting is that there are too many people who do individual animal rescues & avail the NGO's facilities, nothing wrong in that but when they do not get the facilities like ambulance service, medical treatments, vaccinations, hospitalization, volunteer service etc. they just backbite, criticize the NGO's. The anger goes upto that level when the matter goes to press. (My previous postings). I strongly feel, we being a head of charities should control such things on ground level only & make everyone realize. At least I keep doing this. Checkout my blog on www.pawsasia.org <http://www.pawsasia.org/> for 1 unsatisfied person, the entire NGO cannot be hooked. While BSPCA is least bothered to see the importance of such issues, that's why people are on click going to press. Today BSPCA boosts more then 30 inspectors, 6 Wards, Lab, Outpatient ward, 6 ambulances, 40 peoples staff, a office, kitchen, equine projects, crematorium, ABC center. It does not matter for them for 1 negative report but I feel, if the NGO is genuine, the matter should not go to press & make more 100 people negative about the CAUSE! I have full time job in Japanese company apart from that I have look after my family & PAWS as well. So manier time I failed to satisfy each individuals mind. 10 years ago, I had been criticized for trivial things but I proven my capabilities by successfully involving youngsters in animal welfare movement & creating a fleet of Animal rescuers and also keep crossing our own animal rescue figures year after year. Criticism makes one perfect but should be not publically chewed like going in the Newspaper. Regards, Nilesh PAWS Most aptly and beautifully put.
