Dear All,

Below is an email from a Bangalore-based listener who was shocked to hear a man

call a radio show (Radio Indigo, Bangalore's leading radio station) to joke that

he killed his sister's cat by leaving the poor thing in an overheated car. He

won a prize. The Radio Jockey (Meghna) was in splits.

Please write to them at 91.9 and tell them that as a member of

the international animal welfare community, you demand an immediate apology on

air and a guarantee that something like this will never happen again. Your email

will make a huge difference. Please spread the word too.

Thanks and regards

Sriya

Horrid shock!

91.9

Dear Radio Indigo,

I am an avid listener to your music programme when I drive to work in the

morning. But today I was in for a terrible shock when I heard Meghna, your RJ

for the programme, declare the winner of the Sun Folio Worst Dashboard disaster

contest. The prize was given to someone who described with complete

heartlessness the way he had killed his sister's cat by keeping it in an

overheated car. He left the animal in a car in Chennai when the temp was 43

degrees. The cat, obviously got dehydrated and died a slow, painful death. This

incident was related amidst much laughter from the man and, very very

disappointingly, from Meghna too. Anybody who respects life will be disgusted by

the fact that you actually allowed such a story to be aired and to top it gave

the man a prize for a brutal act. He may not have known the repercussions of

leaving an animal (the same would happen to a child) in a car in the sun, but

knowing how much pain he has caused the cat and his

sister (she apparently does not speak to him) he could turn it into a macabre

joke for which your radio commended it!!

This is a time and age when environmental and conservation issues are claiming

top priority. Please do not ever make a joke out of death and pain.

Regards,

Reena Puri
