Three Gaurs die in Kanha tiger reserve 1 Jun 2009, 2227 hrs IST, PTI

 

MANDLA (MP): Three Gaurs, popularly known as Indian Bison, have died in the

Kisli range of Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh last week, reserve deputy

director A K Nagar said.

 

He said that the Gaurs had died of some bacterial disease according to the

post-mortem report.

 

Two Gaurs were found dead on May 26 and one was discovered dead on May 30,

he said, adding that their bodies were found near one common place - Sondar

nullah.

 

He said that the close vigil was being kept on the Gaurs in the reserve, adding

that the animals living in villages, close to the reserve were being vaccinated

against the bacterial diseases.

 

He denied that the three Gaurs had died following an outbreak of some

dangerous disease in the reserve.

 

He said the population of the Gaur in Kanha was around 1600.
