Guest guest
Announcing Japan Dolphin Day, September 3, 2008 Each year, Japanese fishermen eradicate about 23,000 dolphins and other small whales in the most brutal way imaginable. Operating with a permit from their government, they carry out the largest massacre of cetaceans anywhere in the world. Some of the meat is sold to the Japanese public, in spite of the fact that it is contaminated with mercury, methyl-mercury and PCBs. On Japan Dolphin Day 2008, we will be protesting as many international Japanese embassies and consulate offices as possible. We are requesting the Japanese Minister of Health to put a warning label on all dolphin meat, similar to the warning label that has been placed on every package of cigarettes sold in Japan. If the warning label system is implemented, it should have a major impact on the demand for dolphin meat. A warning label may save the dolphins, and it may save the people who eat them. This international protest will set the stage for the ongoing work inside Japan in September. We will keep the pressure on until the annual dolphin slaughter is finally abolished. Please let us know if you are willing to organize a demonstration in your city for Wednesday, September 3rd. This will be an all-inclusive event. In other words, the protest will not take place under the umbrella of any one group. Here's who we have for starters: Animal Welfare Institute - Washington DC Earth Island Institute - San Francisco Elsa Nature Conservancy - Tokyo In Defense of Animals - San Francisco For information and updates regarding this urgent issue, please visit our NEW WEBSITE: www.SaveJapanDolphins.org Thank you, -- ric o'barry
