Guest guest
*http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/details.asp?id=jun0509/letter2 Saving animals * Sir, – It is a matter of great concern to the farming community of the State that every year recurrent seasonal floods ravage almost all the districts causing serious loss to dairy cows and plough bullocks in terms of health and production. During floods, animals are provided temporary shelter mostly in the highlands, highway surfaces and by the side of the railway tracts. It is a common site to see that these animals pass the flood period without any feed, grass or even a small bundle of paddy straws. It is also seen that even after receding of flood, animals do not get good greens which are submerged by muddy layers unless they are naturally washed away by rains. Therefore almost all the animals of the flood affected areas are forced to live under starvation for a pretty long period and as a result they become weak, emaciated and prone to be affected by various diseases. The Animal Welfare Board of India appeals to the concerned department of the government and non-government organisations for extending valuable assistance in terms of supply of feed and fodder to these poor creatures. Registered Animal Welfare Organisations may apply for financial assistance to be obtained under the Natural Calamity Relief Work under Fast Track Programme of the Board. – Yours etc., Dr C K Rajkonwar, Animal Welfare Board of India, Ananda Nagar Path, Guwahati. -- http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
