In the past three days, 210 cattle and other items worth around Rs 34 lakh were seized by the BSF from Assam-Meghalaya sector of the Indo- Bangladesh border, according to a senior official of BSF. While the cattle smuggled to Bangladesh came from mainland India, it's a wonder how the truckloads of cows, oxen and buffaloes made it to the Indo-Bangla border after traveling such a long distance crossing several States. According to a BSF source, these cattle are normally transported from Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It is learnt that the police in the 'cow belt' areas do not intercept the trucks ferrying these cattle to Assam and Meghalaya, except for last month's seizure by the Assam Police. According to sources, these cattle are brought by trucks to places as close as three kms from the international boundary and then channelised through different routes before being pushed across the border. -- http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
