[gibbonkeepersforum] A question on gibbon population in captivity

Dear all,

I am wondering whether I can know the captive population of each gibbon species

in each country or region group; AZA, EAZA, ARAZPA, etc..

Because I am compiling data of them kept in Japan now, I hope to know the

current reality of other non-habitat countries for reference, if possible.

Please inform me about this.

It's also very helpful for me to know the papers or homepages I should read.

Forgive my ignorance.

Thanks in advance!

Current population of gibbons in Japan is as below.

Hylobates lar:81,

Symphalangus syndactylus: 33,

Hylobates agilis:20,

Hylobates pileatus:13,

Hylobates muelleri:7,

Hylobates moloch:4

Nomascus concolor:3

Hybrid and unidentified individuals: 6

(note: For some individuals, we need to reidentify the species name. Studbook

keeper is staffs of Tobe zoo.)

For the future plannning, it must be helpful to know the situation in other

countries.

I would be grateful for your supoort.

Best wishes,

Makiko Uchikoshi
