Dear all,

here is the most recent information on what South Korea's intentions are:-

The Ministry of Environment said it will categorize dogs as livestock to

regulate the sanitation practices of large-scale dog breeders.

According to the ministry, there are about 720,000 dog farms nationwide,

raising some 2.3 million dogs as of December of 2005.

Please if you can circulate our link widely for people to sign our petition

to ban legalising the dogmeat trade.

PS: If any one wants to circulate our flyers to ban the trade and let people

know I can email you the flyer. These are in the form of a menu.

Indeed the ministry said this, according to Kim Tae-jong of

Korea Times, but this claim appears to incorporate the presumption

that every farm in South Korea is involved in raising dog meat,

since there are now only about 720,000 farms of any kind still

operating in South Korea -- markedly fewer than a generation ago.

Also, 2.3 million happens to be the total human population

of the 720,000 farms, combining farm families with other tenants.

I suspect these alleged statistics are either severely

garbled or otherwise misrepresented. If not, we have a couple of

remarkable coincidences.
