Guest guest
Dear Friends, What do you think about this? Friday, 4th May 2007. Orangutan mother was killed by a hoe. Inside a warehouse on a palm oil concession area of Agro Group, a big crate was left in a dark corner. " There is a baby and mother orangutan inside. We caught them four days ago, " one of the plantation workers said proudly. I opened the lid of the crate. The mother orangutan laid weakly inside. The baby held its mother tightly, hiding its face in fear. There was a hoe inside the crate. When I tried to take the hoe away, the baby orangutan seemed to suddenly lose its fear and held on to the hoe with all its might. What I thought happened was confirmed by the workers. They hit the head of the mother to be able to catch them. The mother then lose conciousness and almost died, and they took the mother and baby orangutan away easily. They are a part of hundreds displaced orangutan by palm oil company Agro Group. Orangutan is considered a pest because they eat palm oil seedlings. There are hunted, captured and killed. Palm oil seedlings are not natural food of orangutans. They lost their habitat to palm oil plantation expansion, which take away not only their home but their food source and water as well. Palm oil seedlings are the only other choice of food and they had to pay for it with their lives. Plantation workers have to protect palm seedlings under their responsibility. Orangutans are protected under the Republic of Indonesia's Constitution and anyone harming the rare ape species may face five years in jail or fined 100,000 rupiah. Please continue to read this. Juli 2008. Agro Group expanded their operation to Kuala Kuayan, Central Kalimantan. Nowdays, the forest destroyed just like hit by tsunami. The orangutan, wildlife and ancient sites of Dayak Tribe gone. Where is the moral? 12 - 13 August 2008. The money power of Agro Group also destroy the moral of NGO activists. Under the control of Orangutan Conservation Service Program of USAID, the Forestry Department and several Orangutan NGOs got money from Agro Group to conduct a workshop on Orangutan Action Plan. Nobody wont listen COP that the money could wash their hand and face from orangutan blood. The workshop should go on. They got about 6500 USD from the company and will add more if they want. However, it is not a free lunch. The company set up condition: The Governor and any provincial officer should attend this event. It doesn’t matter how much the NGOs will ask more money for it. This event is the golden opportunity for company to wash their hand / face from orangutan blood. COP will face harder war in the future, against the palm oil plantation and Orangutan NGOs like: WWF Central Kalimantan. Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation / Headquarter. Orangutan Foundation Indonesia (Yayorin). Cakrawala Foundation. Orang Borneo Foundation.
