Guest guest
First, there is no room for debate. Horse racing (or racing of any animals) should be abolished. Period. Second, SPCA(HK) was once funded heavily by the HK Jockey Club. aapn On Behalf Of jwed Monday, April 27, 2009 11:48 AM AAPN List (CN - HKG) Did anyone ask the horses? South China Morning Post Apr 27, 2009 http://www.scmp.com/portal/site/SCMP/menuitem.2af62ecb329d3d7733492d9253a0a0a0/?\ vgnextoid=37bd53fc373e0210VgnVCM100000360a0a0aRCRD & ss=Letters+to+the+Editor & s=Op\ inion With reference to recent letters and articles regarding the Hong Kong Jockey Club's desire to add an additional five racing days in July, did anyone consult the horses? July in Hong Kong is very hot and humid. Our air pollution levels are deteriorating year by year. Some runners in the Standard Chartered Marathon in a relatively cooler early February had problems so the horses would certainly experience respiratory difficulties running in July. It is disappointing to note that to date no animal welfare group has contributed to the debate with some expert and unbiased opinion. The government's decision as to whether racing should be allowed in July must be based on animal welfare combined with social issues. Job creation is certainly admirable, but at what cost? The Jockey Club by pushing the job creation button in the current economic slowdown is hoping to ride roughshod over the interests of both the animals and families that look forward to having their fathers spend the occasional Sunday with them.
