Guest guest
Hi There, I run the operations fro People For Animals, Pune. I am looking for help in rehab of 12 star back turtles. We had seized 12 star back turtles from a pet shop owner under wildlife act in Pune. I have the court orders and permission from Animal Husbandry Dept as well as directions from Zoological Survey of India. So legally we are all OK to send the animals wherever they can have a good life. For last several months we have been tending these animals. We have spent several months trying to look for a place where there are more turtles of this type in the wild in Maharashtra. We were given several vague names and we could not find the colony anywhere where there are more star back turtles. I want to ensure that once they are released they survive and thrive. We would want to get them either released or kept at a rescue center where they will live a life close to their natural life. Guest guest
Dear Manoj! The Turtles can be sent to aplace where there is environment Similar to their Natural Habitat,It is not necessary that these are released where already such species is present. It is some times not favorable to release one species amongst other group of same species. Some Times their is territory struggle or sometimes they dont get adjusted as they have remained in contact with human beings and r having different feeding habits Too.Quarantine has to be maintained.so if released in this group it will not be difficult fr them to adjust.  Has The wildlife Deptt. not involved?
