Pravaan, we met at the hostel in Singapore and I still have copies of ur

book on my shelf. I hope that you are well and still walking about. It looks

like you have come a long way since then and u are doing some very fine

work. Don¹t be swayed by detractors, ur program looks very similar to the

one here in Kathmandu run by KAT Centre and others now in the planning

stages. For our part of the world, it¹s the way to go.

Jiggy in Nepal

Re: FW: (IN) Payment Problems with RMC

Dear Madam and everyone,

I understand why the following remarks coming from Gandhi Madam, I know

there are plenty of organisations having bad reputations due to

mismanagement of funds.

In my last mail I wrote in short - I never thought about having these kinds

of remarks -

It seems I should be explaining thoroughly about myself and the

organisation.

We have been working so hard without any remuneration - putting our own

money wherever required. I can tell all of you that, I am running an unique

project which may not be any where in India cause we want to help end the

street dogs suffering as much as possible without waiting for lot of

infrastructure.

You all know what infrastructure is required for running a ABC program, we

don't have half of that but still we are doing it and we are successful

in helping 600 dogs till date.

If we had waited for the infrastructure that is required, I do not know how

long it would have taken us to start the program!!

I spent my seven years in Ranchi building this organisation - I am from

Maharashtra, I don't have parents hence there was no liability - In Ranchi I

volunteered for WWF under then WWF Chairman Abhas Chatterjee (Late IAS

Officer- wellknown personality of Bihar)

While I was working for developing our non-profit I worked for various

organisation for running my own expenses.

I bought land by my own money for building the shelter in 2003 - I raised

money by selling the book - Asia on Foot. In Singapore I met Phil Wollen of

*The Winsome Constance Kindness Trust – *

who provided grant for Rs. 1,00,000 (One Hundred Thousand), There is one

more company - ACI Pharma donated Rs. 1,00,000 (One Hundred Thousand).

We built part of the shelter with whatever funds available - prior starting

the construction we did approached government and many other companies and

funding agencies for more funds but none responded.

We constructed a structure thinking to get the most cost effective

structure, we did and then waited for years approaching end number of

organisations and government for funding to start the ABC program.

Later the UK based organisation - The Mayhew Animal Home provided Rs.

100,000 for upgrading the shelter and operation theatre.

Ranchi - the capital is 35 Km from the shelter but we needed a full funded

project with infrastructure like Ambulance (Most essential) and running cost

like staffs.

I had problem in getting good people on board cause good people does not

want to get involved in non-profit, however after many efforts we got Mr

Jawahar Lal Srivastava who is a Retd. PCCF of Jharkhand as our Chairman

(Phone- 0651-2242728)

There are not really many people active hence lot of work has to be done by

two or three Board Members. Please visit

http://www.hopeandanimal.org/khmembers.htm

Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has provided us a man pulled Rickshaw (A

tricycle with a cage) and Three dog catching government staff and one

Rickshaw puller).

We have signed MOU with RMC and we get paid Rs. 395 per dog operated.

We notch the ear of the operated dogs for identification

We catch the dog day before the operation day and release them the day after

operation day (started July month onwards) earlier we used to keep them for

two days and now one day after operation.

Ø We identify a block in the city. We approach community members/

leaders/ association of the block and request them to provide a space for

carrying out the ABC program in their area – in this way the community

members get involved.

Ø The dog catching Government staff catches the dogs from the same

block and released in the same block.

I wish if you could send one of your representatives to see our program then

only one can understand/ realise how, we are running the program. It is not

at all easy

We have part time doctors (two) - we pay them 10,000 Rupees and one of the

Government doctor guides by giving his time voluntarily.

We have one Project Co-ordinator who organises and runs the project gets

13000 Rupees.

We operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - any one wish to visit do

visit between morning 6 am to 8 am

We operate 6 or 7 dogs a day that means only 12 to 14 days operation @ 6 or

7 dogs a day comes to 75 to 85 dogs a month comes to approx 25,000/- a

month.

In this we have to pay Rs. 23,000 (Staff) honorarium and also spent on

Medication and food.

I can say that - one should visit our place to know how we are doing - you

will get to see our records too

You can call

Niraj Bhagat - 9835757769 - Project Co-ordinator

Mr Srivastava - 651-2242728

Also you can contact Phil Wollen

Please find attached our Monthly ABC Report which we submitted - there is a

record from Starting i.e October 2007 till date.

And for me - I understand that if I work, I will be able to have shelter and

food for me and can do a little here and there for street dogs. without

money I can not even write this email?

I apologise if there is any word or sentence is inappropriate,

with many kind regards,

Praveen,

What an incredible arrogance from that woman. I am sure you can find help

elsewhere if you look around enough, you better stay far away from

self-righteous people like her.

I had to cope with a similar kind of person in Thailand in the past. My

advise; ignore her.

If you believe in the job you are doing keep on going!
