PETA chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney in a letter to the two leaders claimed that they had been flooded with phone calls and e-mails from people who were horrified by reports that SP MLA from Madhya Pradesh Kishore Samrite sacrificed animals on behalf of the party at Kamakhya Temple. " I hope, upon reflection, you have come to regret your party member's decision to sacrifice animals which will only tarnish your triumph in the trust vote with this blatant show of cruelty to animals, " she said. Animal sacrifice has no place in Indian culture and Article 51 of the Directive Principles of the Constitution states that individuals should show kindness and compassion towards all living beings. Samrite, an MLA from Lanjhi Assembly constituency in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, said that he had been directed by party high command to offer animal sacrifices at Kamakhya to ensure the victory of the UPA in the trust vote and progress of Samajwadi Party. Samrite, who has so far sacrificed 13 buffaloes and 200 goats at Kamakhya, has also earned the wrath of People for Animals activists. -- PTI -- United against elephant polo http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
