It is astonishing to note that one of the elephants was electrocuted on July 27 night many days after the other three elephants met their tragic deaths. Woodcutters at the reserve forest recovered the first three carcasses and reported the matter to the range office from where P Das, FRO, B Mili, beat officer and Dr D Kotel of Halem State Veterinary Hospital along with others rushed to the spot. They confirmed that the elephants were electrocuted at least a week back.
