This is not the first incident that seasoned poachers and first-timers are

arrested with the animal hides in the State capital. What is surprising is that

there were 12 hides of deers (including 3 baby deers) and a leopard skin. And

`12' is a big number…if that is the correct number divulged by the authorities.

The Swamp Deer or the barasingha is an endangered species of deer and can be

seen in protected sanctuaries only. Earlier it was seen across most of North and

central India in areas of moist forest and swampland. With the destructions of

its habitat, the Barasingha is now seen in isolated protected forests in Uttar

Pradesh, Assam and Madhya Pradesh.

So keeping this in mind these 3 persons definitely have a racket running that

extends from UP to MP. And there must be an aide (poacher) of theirs in

Chitrakoot who supplies them with the hides. A little ingenuity on the part of

forest officials would reveal to them what and where and how of this entire

racket!!!!!!

3 nabbed with animal skins worth Rs 40 lakh

14 Jun 2009, 0114 hrs IST, TNN

LUCKNOW: Naka police on Saturday arrested three persons and recovered from them

12 hides of deer along with one of a leopard. Those arrested

identified themselves as Kamlesh, Triveni Singh and Harish Chandra. The three

were nabbed around 11:30 am near the GRP lines after the cops acted on a

specific tip-off provided to them.

Police said that all of them were getting the hides from Chitrakoot. Kamlesh and

Triveni were residents of Chitrakoot while their third aide is from Kaushambi.

The animal skins that were recovered from the three included one of leopard,

three skins of baby deer, eight of deer and one of swamp deer.

Police said it was yet to be confirmed as to who supplied them with these hides

in Chitrakoot and to whom these hides were to be sold in the state capital.

Circle officer (CO) Kaiserbagh, Roshan Lal Jayant said that the value of the

skins recovered from them was over Rs 40 lakh. Jayant added they were also

investigating if the three nabbed themselves had killed these animals for their

hides or some others were also involved in killing these animals.

Chitrakoot police have also been informed about the arrest of the three and

asked to collect the details about the gang nabbed. All of them were booked

under section 9/18/50/51 of Wild Life Protection Act 1972. Gangster Act was also

imposed on them and investigations were on with regards to their criminal

record, if any.
