Guest guest
Even if you dont recognise these type of things as scams, the spelling and grammar (or lack of) used are usually a give away. No one with a Western name like that, and an education like that, would send such a dreadful email. 2009/1/15 azam24x7 <azam24x7 > Below is the original <Dr. Lucy Leigh> mail that found way on my inbox > as well sometime back. > Since I had no requirement for the equipment and vehicle offered hence > I forwarded this to an organisation which has been working for > destitute animals. > Smart spam this huh ! > > Azam > > <> > > Lucy Leigh \(Dr.Vet.Med\) [lucy1 <lucy1%40inMail24.com> > ] > 8/1/2008 1:49:05 PM > azamsiddiqui <azamsiddiqui%40animail.net> > Donation Inquiry. > > Goodday! > > I want to make a one-time non cash donation to a private organization > who may need a vehicle for transportation or a veterinary tech who may > the below tools. > > I am offering to give away 1 pre-owned GMC Van 2006 model and the > veterinary equipments below. > > 1 Medical Lighting > 2 Autoclaves > 1 Microscopes > 2 veterinary tables & Tubs. > > I am making this donations because I own a small private animal clinic > and preparing to pursue my studies in (Animal Transgenesis and Germ > Cell Research). > > Are you familiar with these veterinary tools? give me a detailed > information about your work and why you need the vehicle or the > equipments listed above. > > Sincerely, > > Lucy Leigh > (Dr.Vet.Med). > Tel/Fax: (662) 292-2962- > > On 1/13/09, avis lyons <avis<avis%40animalrescuekerala.org>> > wrote: > > > > > > avis lyons <iarkerala <iarkerala%40.co.uk>> wrote: Dear > sir > > This person was also in touch with us (Dr. Lucy Leigh) no money was sent > > but I spent a great deal of time trying to find a way to get the van into > > India,we tried to find out about the background of Lucy Leigh ,and > decided > > it could be a scam. > > This happened to us a time back,in hindsite i should have made this > > public, but i was not sure if it was a scam or not,and decided as i had no > > proof not to make the issue public. > > regards avis lyons www.animalrescuekerla.org > > Merritt Clifton <anmlpepl <anmlpepl%40whidbey.com>> wrote: > > From ANIMAL PEOPLE, December 2008: > > > > Letters > > > > Scams > > > > Concerning " Scams target adoptors & > > humane societies, " in the October 2008 edition > > of ANIMAL PEOPLE, the Soi Dog Foundation was > > recently scammed out of over $1,400 through one > > of the schemes you mentioned, " in which a > > scammer pretends to be a veterinarian who is > > going back to university, relocating, or > > retiring, and offers to donate veterinary > > equipment to a humane society that will cover the > > transportation. Guest guest
Considering the fact that how much need exists for funds for animal welfare activities globally. I do not think an unknown email should be ignored just because of its grammatical or vocabulary errors. It is always safe to be skeptic, but no harm in reacting in a positive way cautiously. Guest guest
yes - I have maintained contact with 'Lucy' as she told me we could have her van - I was waiting to see how things worked out for us, before finalizing, so we haven't started any negotiations about transport or pick-up ... I had been wondering how we would transfer the papers, as vehicles must generally be registered to a Thai name ... i did also wonder how a woman with a western name had a vet clinic in Thailand, but had presumed it would be through marriage ... thanks all for bringing this to light - I'm sorry to hear Soi Dogs got stung. So sad that people would cheat those who give so much of themselves to help others ... I do always want to believe people are good until proven otherwise: and even then I usually need a lot of proof! shevaun
