Four more dogs poisoned

DNA Correspondent

Since Tuesday, another four stray dogs were poisoned to death by

unidentified people in Naupada. NGOs in the city now doubt robbers at

work. Three bodies were disposed of by the locals, while one which was

found by the NGO, has been sent for post-mortem to Bombay Society for

Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (SPCA).

Last Saturday, five dogs were poisoned in three different locations in

Naupada. A police case had been filed. Even before animal lovers

recovered from the shock, two dead dogs were found on Tuesday, followed

by another two on Wednesday. " Its horrible. If this continues, we

wouldnt have any stray dogs left in a few days, " Shilpa Naik, a

volunteer of Plant and Animals Welfare Society (Paws), said. " I strongly

suspect that the intention behind killing the dogs might be robbery.

Mostly, dogs bark when they find suspicious people. This could have been

an irritant for robbers, " she said.
