NGOs in the city now doubt robbers at work. Three bodies were disposed of by the locals, while one which was found by the NGO, has been sent for post-mortem to Bombay Society for Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (SPCA). Last Saturday, five dogs were poisoned in three different locations in Naupada. A police case had been filed. Even before animal lovers recovered from the shock, two dead dogs were found on Tuesday, followed by another two on Wednesday. " Its horrible. If this continues, we wouldnt have any stray dogs left in a few days, " Shilpa Naik, a volunteer of Plant and Animals Welfare Society (Paws), said. " I strongly suspect that the intention behind killing the dogs might be robbery. Mostly, dogs bark when they find suspicious people. This could have been an irritant for robbers, " she said.
