Re: Torture of elephants in Kerala

You are shown just the dirty tip of a mammoth rotten iceberg called captive

elephant trade and management in Kerala in the name of temple festivals.

Do you know who gives the fitness certificates to all these blind and sick

elephants during the festival seasons annually and reap hundreds of

thousands of rupees illegally on the one hand and and don the anxious and

sympathetic mask of an animal lover?

Do you know who clamour for the import of more capture guns so that they

could accompany the elephants at the behest of the owners and mercilessly

shoots the elephant with the darts at the slightest provocation?

Do you know who help all the elephant owners by giving them clean

post-mortem reports of the elephants which were tortured or starved to

death?

Do you know why not even a single owner was not punished on this count?

Legally you cannot even move an elephant if the fitness certificate is not

issued by a Vet under the State Animal

Husbandry Directorate.

Let us be honest. For a handful of these two legged mercenaries this

" elephant field " is a private goldmine forbidden; for others. As Kerala has

the largest reservoir and gene pool of captive elephants in the world.

They could conduct as many field surveys ,primary drug tests, illegal

experimentations, lab tests and " discoveries " definitely are coming out in the

form of new research papers for the price of a foreign jaunt or a doctorate.

I fully agree with the stale data and sentiments expressed in your forwarded

letter:but I abhor those filthy hypocrites who hunt with the dogs and run

with the hare and shed copious volumes of crocodile tears.
