Sincerely put their efforts in their favorite charity. Below is the summary of awareness & campaigns. PAWS ANNUAL REPORT ON AWARENESS & CAMPAIGN 2008-09 A] AWARENESS & RALLIES: ## PAWS volunteer Sonali Bagde & Anushree Parmeshwaran conducted a small awareness program for Khsitij School in Dombivli on 20th June, 2008. The students enjoyed the photo interaction. ## 16 children from Akanksha Foundation & their teachers Rebecca Newman & Shefali visited PAWS office on Sunday, 17th August 2008 in the afternoon. These children live in slums, having Animal Welfare as project undertaken by them, were delighted by the PAWS welcome. Program drafted by Nilesh with brief introduction on PAWS working, question and answer round next, followed by speech on 'instances of joining PAWS by its volunteers' by Sangam, Crystal, Prathmesh & Saurabh. The next was Beauty without Cruelty Video, break for snacks, play of PAWS video Green Guard, explaining PAWS office work & how students, volunteers can help. Final play of CD 'Compassionate Citizen' & interaction with Pet dog Max. Over 375 children of 8-9-10th standard benefited from the program conducted in all Marathi, Hindi & English mediums on 5th August. ## On 29th September, PAWS new volunteers Preeti Indurkar, Sonali Bagde, Prathmesh Desai & Radheshyam attended the awareness program in 'Vidysagar School', Dombivli. Over 75 students from 6th Std. To 10th Std. benefited from the same. ## On 2nd October, PAWS organized an awareness program at Guardian's School in Gandhinagar, Dombivli in which more then 400 students participated & saw the Compassionate Citizen program. PAWS volunteers Sonali Bagde, Avinash Bhagat & Preeti Indurkar conducted the program. ## On 24th October, PAWS awareness program in-charge Sonali conducted a program at St. Xavier's Classes in Kalyan on animal welfare. Interestingly, this is the first time in the history of PAWS when a private class has organized awareness program. We are delighted! ## PAWS awareness program In-charge Sonali & volunteers Preeti Indurkar and Kartik conducted an awareness program in 'Navbharat School' in Bhiwandi on 25th November 2008. This was followed by a student interaction session. ## PAWS volunteer Parinita Joshi organized an awareness program in Holy Angel's School on 4th December 2008. The Team comprising Nisha Mathew, Sonali Bagde, Preeti Indurkar joined the program. Over 340 children participated in the program. http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Album.aspx?uid=11637720281533423481 & aid=1228 387939 ## PAWS awareness program In-charge Sonali & volunteers Kartick conducted a small awareness program on 21st December 2008 at Kartick's society in Sakharam Complex. ## PAWS volunteer Avinash Bhagat organized an Awareness program on 28th December with NSS students at Mamnoli village near Murbad. Over 50 participants were shown the CD of Beauty Without Cruelty & also different information brochures were distributed among the students. ## On 17th January, PAWS volunteers Parinita Joshi & Sonali Bagde organized an awareness program in Holy Angel's School in Dombivli. Little kids enjoyed the 'Compassionate Citizen' video. ## It has always been our endeavor to educate masses, involve youngsters, and make children aware of our animal world, environment and nature. As a part of this series, February month PAWS Awareness in-charge Sonali Bagde & Preeti Indurkar conducted awareness programs at Adarsh School, Dombivli East & interacted with the children. On 27th March 2009, PAWS volunteers headed by Manasi Bhanage participated in the new year rally organized by Ganesh Mandir Sansthan. 12 PAWS volunteers took part in the rally. But kite flying is dangerous to birds and humans alike. The thread which is used for flying kite is coated with glass powder. It can hurt flying birds. Before this day PAWS volunteers Mansi, Sonali, Darshak & Bhavesh put-up posters all over the city. We whole heartedly thank Advertising Company for their sponsorship of 150 posters across the city & also for designing unique styles. So we had a quick campaign against tree-cutting. We took printouts of specially-made posters & pasted them in our society / building / colonies notice board. For this campaign more then 25 volunteers gathered together at PAWS office for sticking posters across city. Media coverage was given to create awareness. We thank ICICI Lombard Group & Mr. Ajay Marathe for their printing sponsorships. The brochure contains detailed information on Tree Protection Act as well as what do while a tree is getting cut. Call Nilesh 9920777536 D) CONFERANCES, WORKSHOP & SEMINARS: ## On Thursday, 22nd May, I attended a workshop organized by Distrcit Collector of Raigad Dr. Nipun Vinayak on 'Animal Welfare & Garbage Control' alongwith 2 PAWS volunteers Ms. Crystal Fernandes & Mr. Aashim Maske. I was speaker for ABC Rules, Slaughter Houses & Laws, and Stray Cattle Problem. We also played Beauty without Cruelty video, distributed Performing animal's awareness brochure & copies of marathi Laws. There was a huge response for the Workshop. Thanks to Roxanne Conz-Davur of Terra Anima Trust, who made the workshop possible with her excellent organizing skills. In Defense of Animals also joined this session in afternoon. They had a talk on Sterilization & Animal Birth Control Program by Goodicia Vaidya, Sudnya Patkar & Dr. Guruprasad Mahadik. Over 120 people attended the workshop, majority of whom were local policy makers like Corporators, Animal Husbandry, Municipal Health Officers, Police personnel, Presidents of Municipal councils & CEO's. Roxanne taught about Banning plastic on beaches, pony & horse carts, and Garbage control. On the second day, the topics for the workshop were Vermi-culture, Compost, Medical Waste, Nutrition Management, Rag-pickers, Urban Waste Management, Rain-Water Harvesting & Solid Waste Management including E-Waste (Electrical Waste). We hope the workshop will come out with concrete results & mainly stop Bullock cart races which already banned by high-court. The collector's interest & participation was amazing. PAWS work was also showcased by Nisha. PAWS secretary Mr. Nilesh Bhanage attended the conference. PAWS also kept a stall there, through the donation box raised money. Post conference session on Disaster management arranged by WSPA also attended by our secretary. This was great event to spread awareness about PAWS & its activities. It was a successful event. It was inaugurated by State forest minister - Mr. Babarao Pachpute wherein Mr. Nilesh & Sunish were awarded the 'Sarpamitra ID Card'. Both were also authorized by forest department to rescue snakes. The seminar was attended by PAWS volunteers Avinash Bhagat, Karthick Thevar, alongwith PAWS Founder Nilesh and volunteers & Vety. Students Swapna Pendse & Lalitha Gopalan. Many subjects were discussed - right from Poultry to Veganism. Over 200 students benefited from the PAWS program. Mr. Desai is a student of Royal College. All above programs were volunteered & coordinated by Sonali Bagde, Prathmesh Desai, Saurabh Chougule, Avinash Bhagat & Crystal Fernandez. Just call us on 9820161114 ## PAWS 'World Animals Day' celebration started from 3rd October 2008 wherein we organized many awareness programs. World Animal Day is celebrated across the world with different awareness activities. On 4th October PAWS secretary Mr. Nilesh Bhanage's interview was taken in IBN Lokmat in morning bulletin from 8AM to 9AM. Nilesh briefed about how young teams work, different activities undertaken by trust, difficulties faced over the years ## PAWS best volunteers Anahita Kumar & Lalita Gopalan organized an awareness program for school children in Veer Bhagat Singh Vidyalaya on 14th November 2008 on the event of 'Children's Day'. ## For 'Republic Day' - 26th January, PAWS office received a letter from 'Jan-Gan-Man CBSE School' that they are organizing a rally to create awareness on Environmental issues. They were also planning to use an elephant safari during the rally. Upon receiving the letter, Mansi & Sonali immediately went to meet the school principal & urged him to withdraw the elephant exhibition. Finally the school agreed to withdraw the elephant ride. Then PAWS team made banners, placards, hired animal mascots & 15 volunteers participated in Republic Day Rally. The team was headed by Saurabh & Sonali. Volunteers Kartick Thevar, Kajal Mane, Prathmesh Desai, Darshak Shah, Parinita & Ashni Joshi, Sanmit Raje, Neetu John, Preeti Indurkar, Sangam Khandare & Bhavesh participated. While Bhavesh became the rabbit mascot, Saurabh collected donations from the nearby shop owners. It was a successful event. We thank Mr. Abhishek Bhowmick - a well wisher of PAWS, who designed 2 huge banners for this event. The first Brochure contains information about performing animals including bears, monkeys, dogs, and mongoose fights. The text & contents were originally produced by Beauty without Cruelty - Pune, which were reprinted and distributed by PAWS & BWC for awareness. The second brochure named 'Why Go Vegan?' is created by PAWS. This brochure explains why people choose to follow a vegan lifestyle and strive to live without contributing to animal suffering. These 2 brochures are available free of cost. This year it was held on 27 th September 2008. Local volunteer Mr. Ramesh Iyer & his mother feed and look after more then 70 strays in Thakurli area. PAWS team comprising Crystal, Nilesh, Sangam, Saurabh, Sheryl, Avinash & Akshay joined the drive. Over 51 strays were vaccinated against rabies & 7 strays were given first aid.
