Guest guest
Pregnant elephant succumbs to injuries caused by a speeding goods train (at one of the biggest Ramsar site,a few kms from Guwahati, the DEEPER BEEL) after a struggle for nineteen hours, it was hit on the night, 9.30pm on the 16th of october and the next day I, Sangeeta Goswami arrived and called up the authorites an the forest minister too. The team of experts from the vet college arrived very late and could not save the animal and her eighteen month old calf (a healthy male calf) This group of vets could have saved the elephant if desired). The next day the People For Animals, Guwahati, volunteers along with the locals stopped the entry of trains to the Beel, through the elephant corridor (illegal according to the forest rule) and got the assurance from the govt of Assam that the lines will be removed within a period of six months and till then the speed control of trains passing through the Beel should not exceed 8 kms per hour. If really the lines are removed it shall be a great ahievement for PFA.
