Guest guest
Killing of dog, that some call stray, but it is strange when one says that People For Animals never responded, there is an instance when we received a call from an Oil India employee, Deepika Linglia, that a dog (bitch) was beaten to death by two Oil India security guards, Dhiren Das and Kamaleshwar Das, at the command of their officer Parag Das. We immediately registered a case (Case no 38/05 under section 429 of IPC read with section 11(L) of prevention of cruelty to animals act, 1960)against the persons and with the help of police and the lady digged out the carcas of the dog and sent it for post mortem the next day (the dog was kept on a slab of ice for the night). After that the persons were arrested and now also the case is on and still they are unable to join duty. We don't know who this lady is and she never approached us and even if someone comes to us we need to complete the formalities before registering the case.(read telegraph 2 march,2005)
Guest guest
Yes indeed this action of the animal people is highly appreciated. But then why a COMPROMISE ???? *>Animal rights activist Sangeeta Goswami has agreed to let off the dog killers on condition that Oil India Limited admit the stray dogs to her hospital and help her run the clinic as well.< >Deal with dog killers< *Link: http://www.telegraphindia.com/archives/archive.html If this is the trend then every Salman Khan would kill an animal and build a dozen of hospitals and shelters to get away with the crime. This is appaling !! I wish the law would have been asked to take its own course and the guilty punished so that it could have served as a model for others to follow and the present incident averted as well. As animal people we can voice for an animal in distress and help it if it is alive. If tortured and dead then COMPROMISE is just POISON and should be avoided at any cost. One may as well do charity within ones capacity rather than tarnish the Goodwill built over the years. Please read the full text below: * *Link: http://www.telegraphindia.com/archives/archive.html* Deal with dog killers* * *A STAFF REPORTER *March 7: *Animal rights activist Sangeeta Goswami has agreed to let off the dog killers on condition that Oil India Limited admit the stray dogs to her hospital and help her run the clinic as well. Goswami, a member of Animal Welfare Board of India and chairperson of an NGO, Peoples for Animals, struck the deal with the Indian Oil Workers Union on March 4 at a meeting between animal rights activists and union members. ?I will withdraw the case against the security personnel if OIL helps me out with my animal hospital,? Goswami said. Goswami had lodged an FIR with the Noonmati police station on February 25 against two homeguards, Dhiren Das and Kamaleswar Das, of Oil India Limited for allegedly clubbing a stray dog to death at the instigation of their security officer, Parag Das. An OIL employee had reported the gruesome act to the board. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case, number 38/05 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960. The guards were later arrested on March 3. Goswami asked the union to bring all stray dogs to her hospital so that they do not pose any threat to the safety and security of the people staying in the area. The union said it would extend all co-operation towards her activities. President of Indian Oil Workers Union R.K. Sarma had even explained to the animal rights activist that the residents were petrified of the stray dogs. Sarma said the dogs run around areas where high-powered engines are located. The union said 38 dog bite cases have been reported in the area in the past 11 months. The police had dug up the carcass of the dog on February 26 from the Oil India campus and sent it to the College of Veterinary Science at Khanapara for post-mortem. The post-mortem report had said the dog had died of haemorrhage. * * On Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 1:12 PM, sangeeta goswami < sangeeta_goswami2003 wrote: > Killing of dog, that some call stray, but it is strange when one says > that People For Animals never responded, there is an instance when we > received a call from an Oil India employee, Deepika Linglia, that a dog > (bitch) was beaten to death by two Oil India security guards, Dhiren Das and > Kamaleshwar Das, at the command of their officer Parag Das. Guest guest
>If this is the trend then every Salman Khan would kill an animal and >build a dozen of hospitals and shelters to get away with the crime. If every Salman Khan built dozens of hospitals and shelters in atonement for his crimes against animals, there would soon be sufficient humane infrastructure to expand from reactive rescue & prosecution into much more effective preventive education. If even one did, animals would be the net beneficiaries, since every hospital and shelter could help thousands more than most of the Salman Khans of the world manage to harm. >I wish the law would have been asked to take its own course and the >guilty punished so that it could have served as a model for others >to follow and the present incident averted as well. The most useful model for others to follow is positive atonement, doing something substantive to help animals. Sangeeta Goswami appears to have struck a very helpful and useful bargain. Prosecuting a handful of individuals accomplishes relatively little for the benefit of animals compared to securing the cooperation of an entire corporation and a major labor union. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
