Last year in June-July, three tigers were flown from Ranthambore reserves to Sariska sanctuary as part of the government's plan to revive the tiger population in the park. Sariska lost all cats to poachers and human interference in the sanctuary by 2004. " The relocated animals are doing well in the prey-rich habitat spread over 881 square kilometer. We hope the minister sees them when he visits the park, " K Sankar, a scientist with the Wildlife Institute of India, said. The minister, who will be making the trip to Sariska for the first time after taking charge of the environment ministry, will review the steps taken by the state government to make the habitat safe for the relocated wild cats. The minister is also likely to expedite the relocation of two more tigers besides asking the state government to sign a tripartite agreement with the Centre for big cat conservation whose numbers have dwindled to around 1,400. To mark the first anniversary of the project, the State government is organizing a workshop in Sariska in which several wildlife experts as well as chief wildlife wardens from tiger-range states are expected to participate.
