Guest guest
The following response is with reference to a letter published on 27th July' 2009 (attached below). Azam http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/details.asp?id=jul3009/letter2 LETTERS * * *Proxy sacrifice Sir, – It refers to the letter “Animal sacrifice” by Dilip K Chakrabarty, (AT, July 27). There is no debate on the issue of animal sacrifice for whatever reason. The practice is just plain cruel, uncivilized, unwarranted, and speaks volumes of how poorly a society can be viewed, with animal sacrifice as a backdrop. What is the “noble” reason Chakravarty refers to? Only highly deluded humans can even try and justify such an abhorrent practice. None of us ought to take any pride in our power and capacity to sacrifice powerless animals. I cannot imagine any omnipotent, all powerful, kind, and loving God can be appeased to any degree by clueless humans wanting to absolve their sins through some proxy sacrifice. – Yours etc, Ram Sarangapani, Spring, Texas, USA.* _________________________ * http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/details.asp?id=jul2709/letter3 LETTERS Animal sacrifice * Sir, – In animal sacrifice, the killing of an animal is not regarded as slaughter. It is not a crime, sacrifice means “to make an offering to God”; “to give up a thing for some noble reason.” When an animal is offered as a victim in the sacrifice it leaves behind its mortal frame and its spirit achieves union with the God invoked in the sacrifice. The sacrifice helps the animal to attain this divine status, union with the God in an easy way. Killing in sacrifice amounts to non-killing. As the sacrificer is not able to offer himself in the sacrifice, an animal or other obligations are offered as his substitute. The animal is regarded as the proxy. – Yours etc. Dilip Kumar Chakrabarty, Rukmininagar, Guwahati. -- http://www.stopelephantpolo.com http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui
