THEY ARE NATURALLY BORN WILD, THEY SHALL ALWAYS BE WILD.

It is time AWBI instead of allowing permissions for use of 'Captive

Elephants' acknowledges the many examples of the past incidents and

BANS them completely for any human entertainment use.

Thrissur, Kerala, Jul 30 : Bollywood Actor-Couple Abhishek Bachchan

and Aishwarya Rai had a narrow escape when an elephant ran amok

killing the mahout during the shooting of Mani Ratnam's 'Ravana' at

Athirapally Waterfalls Area in this district of Kerala.

Kunju, the elephant which was brought to the forest area for the

shoot, ran amok yesterday evening and trampled its mahout Andavan to

death.

Abhishek, Aishwarya, Vikram and Ace Director Mani Ratnam who were

sitting at a distance, were immediately moved to safer places.

A major tragedy was averted as the incident took place after the

shooting for the day was over.

The actors were stranded in the forest as the elephant stood in the

middle of the road, thus obstructing the traffic.

They could be taken to their resorts only after the elephant was

brought under control by tranquilising it.

Ravan is being shot in Hindi and Tamil.

Meanwhile, the Animal Welfare Board issued showcause notice to Mani

Ratnam's film production company, Madras Talkies, for not taking it's

permission to use elephant in film shooting.

KOCHI: Ace director Mani Ratnam's film production company Madras

Talkies has been issued a show cause notice by the Animal Welfare

Board for not taking permission to use elephants in his film 'Ravan'

starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

One of the two elephants brought for the shoot had turned amok,

killing its mahout yesterday. Police said there was no shooting today

and the unit had informed them that they were shifting to

Udhagamandalam.

The film was being shot with the lead pair in the forests near

Athirampally waterfalls in Thrissur district when the mahout was

trampled to death by the elephant after the shoot was over. Aishwarya,

Abhishekh and Mani Ratnam were at the shooting site when the incident

took place.

Board secretary D Rajasekar said from Chennai that no permission had

been obtained by Mani Ratnam, producer and director of the bilingual

film 'Ravaan', for using elephants.

The Board has asked the company to submit its reply in seven days and

the Chief Wildlife Warden to give a report about the incident.

Rajasekar said a No-objection certificate has to be obtained from the

Board for shooting films, TV serials and commercials in which animals

are used.

The elephant, which stood in the middle of the road blocking the way

of the star pair, who were staying at Athirampally Rain forest resort,

was brought under control late last night and taken away from the spot

at 2am today, police said.

Abhishek and Aishwarya had to take a different route to their hotel yesterday.
