Guest guest Posted September 9, 2008 Report Share Posted September 9, 2008 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Secretary AWBI <secretary.awbi *Action taken by AWBI to provide relief to flood affected animals in Bihar* Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has deputed its team with adequate Veterinary medicines and Veterinary Doctor to work with WSPA team for providing relief to animals in the flood affected areas. The team will also liaise with Shri Bhanu Pratap Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary & Commissioner, Department of Animal & Fish Resources, Government of Bihar. The Chairman has spoken to Shri Sharma to coordinate the animal rescue relief work. 2. The Chairman AWBI has written to Gen N.C. Vij, Vice Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority providing large scale relief - rescue operations in Bihar to ensure that Govt. of India norms laid down for providing assistance to the animals from Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) and the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) for the following are implemented in letter and spirit: (1) Replacement of draught animals, milch animals or animals used for haulage, (2) Provision of fodder/feed concentrate in the cattle camps, (3) Water supply in cattle camps, (4) Additional medicines and vaccine (calamity related requirements), (5) Supply of fodder outside cattle camps, (6) Movement of useful cattle to other areas, and (7) Medical care for cattle and poultry against epidemics as a sequel to a notified natural calamity. The Chairman has also written similar letters to the Chief Secretary, Bihar and Principal Secretary Principal Secretary & Commissioner, Department of Animal & Fish Resources, Government of Bihar to ensure that assistance for flood affected livestock is provided to them as per guidelines of Ministry of Home in CRF and NCCF. The Chairman has also written to the Hon'ble Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Shri Sharad Pawar to release food grains unfit for human consumption from FCI stores as animal feed for distributing it to flood affected animals in Bihar . All Bihar NGOS, Honorary Animal Welfare Officers and Co-opted members have been requested to participate in the animal rescue operations and apply to AWBI for financial assistance under Natural Calamity Scheme. Interested NGOs from other states have also been requested to participate in this exercise.
