Guest guest
> " I would like to mention here that this is not an isolated incident but a periodical event which recurrently takes place on JNU Campus as demonic north-eastern boys< The writer should note that the people of Assam (Assamese) do not have any history/ records of dog meat consumption. Neither in the state of Assam or outside. So to generalise the ethnicity and the diversity of Northeast India which has both plains and hills, tribals and non trobals, mongolite origin etc would be unfair. Infact the Assamese community is the ones which has been been fighting a lone battle to save the homeless population of the dogs from being consumed by the natives of a few states such as Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal, Meghalaya and Manipur. One can find several examples of the Assamese people specially students based in New Delhi who are strugggling hard living in crammed localities but selflessly taking the pain of caring for homeless dogs and cats cattle and other destitute animals. I can cite an example of two people Ms. Karobi Das and Mr. Arunabh. They are staying in Delhi in New Friends colony for quite some time now and I have known them from being students to working people. They have been taking care of many homeless destitute animals and not only from a distance by throwing food left overs but by providing them shelter in ther single room apartment. This without any funds or assistance from the scores of animal welfare organisations that exist in the capital. Infact it is a shame that in the same locality many a times I myself have witnessed ruthless treatment of homeless animals from many " local " Delhi citizens. Back here in Assam, People for Animals is tirelessly risking their lives in confiscating scores of dogs packed in gunny sacks which are smuggled out by the agents into Nagaland. And the organisation is headed by an Assamese lady and most of its members come from the Assamese society. Please see here: http://www.freewebs.com/azamsiddiqui/news.htm The ruthless trade of Indian dogs for food in Northeast India It may be noted that when the media and the press was nationwide was waging a WAR against animal rights, it was an Assamese- the Secretary of the Press Club of Guwahati who echoed a voice blasting the erring reporters and media for their biased reports during the Bangalore/ Hyderabad homeless dog masacres. I had then posted the letter from Mr. Nava Thakuria, I do so once again here below (please note what his 1st line says). Regards, Azam Siddiqui ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Nava Thakuria <navathakuria Mar 22, 2007 3:19 PM Kukura Srigala Gadarbharo Atma Ram azam24x7 Dear all, Kukura Srigala Gadarbharo Atma Ram-the famous line of great Assamese saint, philosopher and the greatest son of the soil, Srimana Shankaradev defines the importance of each and every animal living in this planet. We, the man don't have the right to harm any other animal. Moreover, the dog is identified as the best friend of human society and it has received place in our great epic like Mahabharat, when the Pandava went to heaven, the ultimate companion of Yudhisthira was a dog. We must not forget our heritage and should never be cruel to our most trusted escort in the changing phases of life and living. Media should play an important role sympathizing to the homeless dogs in Bangalore and deal the situation with a humane face.
