Guest guest
Here is an appeal for someone from India or abroad. ------- URGENT APPEAL to find volunteers to go to India and help animals Sun, 5 Jul 2009 22:24:05 +0100 Candida Nastrucci <candidax candidax <candidax Hello All, As some of you already know I went to India several times in the past few months and have rescued some street dogs with the aim of offering them care for their injuries and give them a better life or the chance to experience life. Some of the dogs I have found with other volunteers, have been given to a good home, some have been killed by the government once vaccinated and sterilised as they were brought back where we had found them (at the beginning it was thought that this was not happening), those who survived but had not found a home are in a safe place now and they are going to be taken to Europe. The original plan was to bring them back on street after vaccination etc but it was scrapped due to the fact that dogs are still killed, as recent events had sadly shown us. So I had to move the dogs from Kollam in Kerala to Chennai (Madras) to a rescue centre that could keep them all until September when I could take them to Italy in a nice place in the countriside with lots of land. The problem is that the lady who has them now at the rescue centre is having a lot of problems with them and she said she cannot handle them anymore. She has very few members of staff, because is very diffult to find people working for animals in India, and she has too much trouble with them. So she wants me either to go back and fly them them to Europe now (which is practically impossible as the documents are in Italy, the flight arrangements are not ready and I can't take days off my job just now) or to have somebody staying there and taking care of them until the docs and procedure are ready (mid-August) because she and her staff have too much work with the other 1000 animals that she can't give any more time to my dogs. They are causing her many problems, eating wires, being very sick because of that, eating and chewing everything they find (some of them are around 5-6 months old, trying to escape, being bad with other dogs. These dogs were used to stay with people/volunteers all the time, to play in a large garden, to receive love and attention and now they are in a place where there is no time for everyone, as there are around 700 other dogs, and they are left alone in a much smaller garden to share with other 45 dogs. So they are tired and vandalise everything. I am here then to bring an appeal and call for volunteers, a person who really loves dogs and animals, who is happy to work for them and get dirty if necessary and would like to help on a very practical level and could go to Chennai to help in the shelter asap. The ticket with Air India is only about £280 return and I could contribute to that. Living expenses are very low there but some financial independence would be beneficial. Once the right person is found we could discuss the details. The problem is really urgent, she has also family problems and she is really very stressed and I am worried that she may get ill and she has so many animals to take care of, that if she is not well it would be a disaster for many animals. Yesterday one of 'my' rescued dogs managed to escape but it was a miracle that she was found by chance by one of the members of staff looking for a new dog in the area that they were called to pick up, then they found out that she was one of mine. Is there somebody you know and trust that could be interested? You can pass this email to people you may think suitable. If you want to help please contact me asap at candidax <candidax Many thanks Candida
