Guest guest
On Tuesday 27Th Jan I was just returning from Trivandrum where I had gone to pick up another abandoned German Shepherd (another dog not in my area but that of PFA who refuse to pick up sick and injured animals) this one was emaciated and covered in mange with a very sore leg. On the way back home I can across a lorry with a Tamal Nadu licence plate that was in the process of having cattle unloaded from it. I would estimate that there were approximately 20 cows who had been unloaded from the lorry , whilst a further 20 or so were still loaded , tied to each other and to the lorry by string tied through their noses. One poor cow was lying down with her head held up by the sting attached to the side of the lorry. The majority of the cattle were very thin and some showed signs of diarrhoea . This was an area the opposite side of Trivandrum from the approved government slaughter house. My daughter followed some men as they manhandled some of the cattle along some side streets. The cattle were tied together in rows by their noses and were obviously tired and confused. Eventually they then came to a stop outside of a high gate where it was impossible to see over to the other side. The procession stopped here with the gate closed whilst they waited for my daughter to leave. I in the meantime had contacted my Vet who rang the Police at Kovalam, they said that they had nobody free to send. I then rang the Assistant Commissioner of Police of East Fort in Trivandrum who asked me to go and see him the next day and put the phone down on me twice. We went back to the lorry, which was still stationary with the remaining cattle loaded in it and nobody would admit to being the driver. Unfortunately with no Police assistance there was nothing we could do to help these poor beasts. We have photos of this incident available if required, the phone number and number plate from the lorry are also on the photos. Can anybody do something please?? avis lyons www.animalrescuekerala.org
